He did it!

My fourth and youngest, Nicholas (Nicky to us, Nick to his friends) graduated high school today. It was a nice ceremony that ran just under two hours. There was a dark cloud in the nearby sky, but it moved away from us. Pleasant breezes took care of the heat that usually plagues these outdoor ceremonies. (And to think, I had four personal fans in my pocketbook!)

Nick will be attending a local community college. He recently took a two-day program meant to assess his strengths. We haven't gotten the results back, but he's best at math and science. (He's great at history, too, if the topic interests him.) The program will help him pick his major.

With the economy as it is, many more kids than before are attending community colleges. This means a longer waiting list. We got our notice that Nicky's application is being processed. I'm pretty sure he's in. He has the grades and I think community colleges have to accept local residents as long as they qualify. It isn't like Harvard. Thank goodness...it isn't like the tuition there, either.

So the future begins. I only have two of four kids living home now. It is weird to come home and know the house will be empty for a few hours.

Congratualations to Nick and also to you!!

Your youngest is graduating from highschool this year; my eldest is also. She, too, is attending college locally.

I really like the idea of the program to assess a student's strong points. My son will graduate in two years. He is a good student, but is having a good bit of difficulty deciding what he would like to do. I think something like this program would be a great help to him. I'll have to look into something like that.

Again, congrats and happy transitioning.

Congratulations to Nick! My DS will be a senior this fall. I can hardly believe it!

Thanks for posting on my poor neglected blog. I keep promising to update more, but I just keep putting it off!

I am hoping to do some crafting tonight as my son is playing guitar at a local blues restaurant and dear hubby is going with him. Leaves me all alone! Yay!

Don't you just love Sugarpie Farmhouse enough to marry it!

Blessings

Congrats to Nick. I went to a community college. It was nice to have that 2-yr degree to put on a resume and then once I transferred to a 4-yr college those cheaper courses looked just the same!

I'm late to offer my congratulations to both of you! My youngest graduates next year. I can't wait. I'm learning about the empty nest syndrome because the older my son gets the more he is out doing his own thing. Sometimes it is pretty darn quiet around here!
