Sew Crafty Friday: Vintage Dress

My friend (she with the newly adopted baby) was kind enough to let me borrow some of her patterns, including a really cool vintage one from 1954! It's already cut in a size 1, so that's the size of the pinafore I'm making for the baby. I figure she'll either wear it next winter with a sweater, or next spring. Anyhoo, my only problem is that my buttonhole attachment has vanished (it's in this room somewhere, but I can't find it and I've looked!), so I'll only be able to take this up to the buttonhole step. Oh, well, I hope it find it before next winter. I have a lot of projects that need buttons, LOL!

The dress has a princess line, which is just so pretty and girly. I wish little girls still dressed like this!

PS--there is a dark spot on the dress in the photo, but it's not there in real life. Strange trick of the flash, I suppose. The dress is attached to my mannequin, sans sleeves. The sides are not yet sewn, so it's not quite as wide as it looks.

Oh I just love the pattern you are using! I have no little girls to buy for but I notice the stores don't carry very modest clothing for little girls. I really think that there is a market cute little dresses like these.

Have a great weekend!

That's a cute pattern. I don't have any girls to sew for yet. My grandbaby is a boy, but maybe I can sew him some little button on the shoulder outfits. You must be a good seamstress!

I got the CVS deals! Now I have $20.00 burning a hole. Can't wait for the next week's sales paper.

Thanks, Debbie J.

Sweet! I collect vintage girls' clothing. You can bet there will be at least one little girl wearing these kinds of clothes. Your dress is nice.

Oh I just LOVE the pattern! How cute is it?? You're so right, they just don't make little girls' dresses so cute anymore! :( The material you've chosen is absolutely gorgeous too - she's going to be one sweet little girl! :)

What a sweet little dress. So vintage. Love the fabric you used. i do not sew, only if i have to put a button back in it's place, so i always admire those of you that sew so beautifully. Now, i have to ask, what is caprese salad?

Hi there - you left a comment on my blog about your cousin having the same name as me - well, there are some other HUGE coincidences with what you said, and you have me very curious! I could not locate your e-mail address, so this was the only way I could figure out how to contact you. Could you send me an e-mail when you have time?

Oh, what a sweet pattern!!!! I came across a box of patterns while going through my Mothers things. I am sure some of the patterns are from my Grandmothers collection also. I must take a closer look at them soon.

That is such a cute dress--love the fabric. I agree about little girls dressing this way--the stores have it all wrong with the "grown-up" clothes for girls. Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog--very very nice of you! :-)
