Thanks...and girl games

Thanks to everyone who commented on my post about the strange experience I had. I guess the world isn't what it was when I was a kid.

Then again, maybe it never was what it was, LOL!

Still, there are some nice things that are still around. Remember the game "Cat's Cradle"? Did you play it as a little girl? I know I did! And I was very pleased and surprised to see two young girls, of about 8 and 10, playing it while waiting to see the doctor last night. Even better, I was happy with myself because I remembered how to do it, too! I'm sure it's been 40 years since I played--and I still remember the pinky-crossing step, LOL! I guess it's like riding a bike--you never really forget.

Did you play Chinese checkers? Jacks? How about "Miss Mary Mack?" In this day of video games, it was nice to see something so non-tech as that loop of string around little fingers. I think it's a shame that such things are becoming a lost art. If you have daughters...heck, if you have sons...teach them what you remember from your own childhood.

I have a Jacob's Ladder I brought to work (yes, the almost-52-year-old loves toys) and one of the sisters just couldn't get enough of it. Simple pleasures!

Oh my, what memories. We played Jacks, Chinese Checkers, Marbles, Hop Scotch, Jump Rope, Old Maid, Red Light... You now what I just thought of? A lot of the stuff we played took us outside and got us moving. I think that's why (that and fast food) is why we have a childhood obesity problem now.

When we were kids, Susan, you might also remember that if we wanted to play in a nearby lot, nobody chased us away. Nobody worried about lawsuits, because heaven forbid little Maryjane might stub her toe.
We were better at spontaneous play, too. Too many kids are overscheduled today, with an activity for every afternoon. I can hear our moms back then: "you want activity? Go outside!"
Red Light, Green Light--there's another one I remember! And kickball and running bases...

I wish it was, but it is closer to the war zone. They told him the base has only been bombed twice...Now I should feel better?Yea right! Thanks for the prayers.

Brenda, I can't imagine going through this with my own kids. And I know the only thing that will make you feel better is having your son home again. So...you will continue to have my prayers and good wishes!
Punkin, it is up to us to pass on these things. Therefore, when the little girl I babysit comes next week, I plan to do a few rounds of Cat's Cradle with her!
