Kitchen Tip Tuesday

It's Kitchen Tip Tuesday over at Tammy's Recipes! http://www.tammysrecipes.com/

My tip could go hand-in-hand with Lynn's tip about freezer meals. It is to take inventory of what you have on hand...especially meat. I decided to do this between yesterday and today. I had no idea that I already had 3 roast beefs in there before I bought another one today. Okay, one is a chuck roast that I plan to cut up for vegetable soup. And the price of rump roast was excellent today.

But now that I know what I have, and what I'm low on, I can shop more efficiently. I can watch for chicken cutlets to go on sale--don't have any of those except for what we're eating for dinner tomorrow night. But I have plenty of browned ground beef and will make plans around that. Another thing I found was a turkey breast. How on earth does one 'lose' a turkey breast, LOL!? Yeah, it's chest freezer, but it ain't that big.

(I didn't forget about the whole turkey I bought last week. I took it out and it's in the upstairs fridge now thawing for dinner early next week.)

I bet if you clean out your freezer, you'll find plenty from which you can plan meals for at least the next week!

Ah yes, there are ALL kinds of things lurking around in freezers sometimes! One can always HOPE that they can recognize whatever it is they are pulling out from the bottom of the freezer!

LOL! I have an upright freezer and I try to make each shelf a designation for certain things(ie. a bread shelf, a meat shelf and a boxed goods, and baked goods shelf). I still have a 12lb turkey from the sales around Thanksgiving hanging out in my freezer!! I also have a bag of ice that hubby made up with our automatic ice maker in fridge freezer for LAST summer with storms and picnics.

So having stock of your freezer helps plan meals and find that you probably don't really need to step foot in the grocery for a week or two(at least in my case!). :)

Thanks for stopping by today!

Haha, good tip. I know we have all sorts of meat lurking in my family's freezer... of course, with me, the issue is having enough time for the meat to defrost! (Especeially with my erratic meal schedule.)

And no, I haven't fixed it yet. I did try it on long enough to figure out that the straps are now too short. But I know what I'm going to do to fix them... we'll see if it works!

I make a list but that still does not always help. I forget to mark things off and then I think I have something I don't. Or I freeze something in a hurry and forget to write it down. I do recommend at least trying to keep a list though :) Thanks for posting on my blog.
